KaShunda “Shun” (she, her, hers) earned her master’s degree in School Counseling from Amberton University and continued her professional counseling studies at Lamar University. Additionally, she has received specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and trauma informed counseling.; as well as extensive Sex Therapy training through Sexual Health Alliance. She is currently a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. Shun provides sex-positive, inclusive and LGBTQIA+ affirmative counseling services.  Hence, she welcomes diversity.

 

Her career in counseling has spanned service in secondary schools, community counseling centers and private practice serving teens, adults, and couples. Examples of concerns/issues that she has supported clients through include anxiety & stress management, depression, self-esteem & self-acceptance, life transitions and coping skills, and relationship concerns.  Shun also supports individuals and couples in addressing various sexual related issues, including sexual orientation, gender identity, desire discrepancy, sexual trauma, sexual orientation, and alternative sexualities/relationship structures.


Shun’s therapeutic style is integrative in nature and provides an emotionally safe space that supports her clients' insights, self-exploration, concerns, emotions and achieving healthy goals. Her work with clients involves exploring the connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors; open dialogue, focusing on strengths and values, integrating mindfulness techniques, and implementing effective coping skills and practices both during and in between sessions that can better equip her clients to handle life’s challenges as they arise.
